The bureau of architecture WALTER VON LOM and ASSOCIATES was founded in 1972 by Walter von Lom as an independent studio of architecture in Cologne. In 1993 Walter von Lom associated with Hubert Meuser, Dierk Ellegiers and Siegfried Ellegiers.
Our most important task is finding the solution for ambitious creative, functional and economically efficient building assigments. We have not limited ourselves to specific tasks, but frequently have to solve the difficult problem of combining the old with the new. We have to integrate complicate existing situations into new building projects, while taking into consideration creative, functional and economic aspects.
Hereby is of great importance not to imitate historic and traditional details but to add new to the old. The new must carry the particular and appropriate creative signature of today, which in its quality and over-all proportions is determined by given scale and characteristics. We value a characteristic atmosphere, which stimulates the inhabitant or user of a building and reaches beyond the usual functional requirements, giving him his particular identification through the interior and exterior appearance.
Competitions supply us with about 90 % of our commissions.


The projects we realize are as follows:

  (Kindergarten and residentials for seniors)
• industrial buildings
  (central laundries, water-works and seweriges)
• housing constructions
  (villas, housing projects and apartement houses)

Our bureau has been awarded several prizes for these projects and they have been published in many technical periodicals, books and daily newspapers. Together with our staff of 30 co-workers (graduate engineers and fully qualified architects) we try to follow a very personal and individual style. Our technical equipment includes 30 PC and 16 CAD working places.
Our work concentrates on the entire field of planning. We also take on the supervision of building works and of planning the scheduling and calculation as well as the engineering.
